The Chairperson of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), Prof. Jose Maria Sison, has released a statement saluting the heroic resistance of the Kurdish people and their army in Rojava, the YPG/YPJ – People’s Protection Units — against the criminal gangs of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in Kobanê, one of the self-governing cantons of West Kurdistan (Rojava) in Syria.

We, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle, support the Hong Kong people in upholding and exercising their democratic rights.  We condemn the police brutality applied by the Hong Kong authorities to suppress the people’s right to assemble and speak freely.  We are aware that both the Beijing and Hong Kong authorities are anxious to end  the mass protests for fear that these are likely to embolden similar mass protests in mainland China, especially because of the Tienanmen massacre in 1989 and the current deteriorating economic and social conditions.

The current unprecedented rise in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere brought about by the wanton pillage of the environment by monopoly capitalism has created an untenable situation for the world’s peoples.

Record levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been measured by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 2013. At the same time,  the highest rate of increase of greenhouse gases has been recorded in the past thirty years. The continuing increase in greenhouse gas production has caused drastic changes in our planet’s climate systems that are now bearing heavily on poor and vulnerable communities in the world.
